Firstly, I liked the video and it contained a ton of talent and I'm all for the effort to help Haiti and its people, but what I don't get (and this has been going on for as long as I've been alive and probably much longer) is why and how America and Americans can help other nations and other people, but we can't help our own nation and our own people. It just seems ass backwards to me.

Here's my thing...If all those people in the video gave up 50-60% of their money they would still be able to live as comfortable as you and I and they would have done more than all of us broke people donating put together...

Not even that much, if all these people gave 10% it would make such a huge difference, would go a lot farther than donating their voices on a track for their own P.R. reasons

i think that its beautiful how people can ban together when tragedy strikes, but i have to admit i agree with Danny like 10,000 percent..i was just talking about that today. its almost like americans/stars are doing it now just to join the band wagon, not because its the right thing to do (not sayin they dont care). but i mean, i was listening to the radio and they said that Jay-z donated 1.5 mil and beyonce matched him...thats great and all but what about the starving homeless people here in america?

Exactly. There is a quote from either JMT or AOTP (I forget which one as they're almost the same people) that goes something like, "How can we help others when we can't even help ourselves?" There's another one, by the same people, I think, that goes something like, "How can we be powerful with incredible debt?"
Both of these quotes are completely relevant to the situation(s) at hand today. If America and Americans made the effort to help our own nation and its people from day 1 then we would be better able to help other nations and their people today without having to worry as much about our own nation and our own people like we do today. More people that aren't starving, have homes and jobs means that that's more people contributing to our economy and nation's well-being.
Honestly, how can we expect people to donate and help others when we can't even help ourselves and own people?
EDIT: I wanted to make something clear before anyone starts getting angry or whatnot. I'm not saying that the Haiti relief is anything but a great thing. More power to everyone helping out, but I'm just stating that we could have better helped Haiti (as well as many others both American and foreign) if we would have helped our own from day 1.
