Kay Slay just dropped an album like a week ago, which was pretty decent (or at least not as wack as I expected it to be). Big Mike slowly faded away, just like the mixtape industry in general is going to soon. Clinton Sparks... well  He didn't exactly have an illustrious career to fall off in the first place, but I liked his tapes.
Funkmaster Flex > Kay Slay anyway
And the .gif in your sig... *thumbs up*

He caught the Big Mike affect and faded as well. The mixtape industry is going to die soon. Meaning 90% of these lame ass plug-n-play DJs aren't going to have a hobby anymore. No more downloading the latest songs of Boxden, zipping them together, and calling it a mixtape.
From what I understand Smallz just smartened up... instead of tending to the public by collecting exclusives from big artists and trying to sell the tapes, he just charges one unknown artist to host/produce their mixtape.
Mixtapes suck nowadays anyway. Aside from the once in a while true Evil Empire exclusive or a DJ Drama Gangsta Grillz edition (featuring a GOOD artist), good riddance to mixtapes, of the street kind.
If anyone should continue dropping mixtapes, it's the up-and-coming freshmen/blog kids like B.o.B, Asher Roth, XV, Nero, etc.

This is the pattern of mixtapes:
Back then = done for the love of music
Currently = dont for the love of money
New era (Asher, Charles Hamilton, etc.) = done for the love of music
Go to any of these new cats' blogs and they'll post their own entire discography for free. I'm sure they want to get paid but first and foremost, they want to be heard and show appreciation to their fans, which I respect.
Back then was simply the golden era of music. Artists loved putting out music and fans loved BUYING it. It'll never get better than that.
But I can't front, once in a while, a decent gem drops like Fab's tape. But for every one gem, there's 50+ wack ass tapes. Anyone with a copy of Photoshop, iTunes, and an internet connection is a DJ apparently. It's coming to end though. I also know a lot of mixtape cover designers (such as myself) are gonna lose a lot of work

you couldnt of put it in a better way about a gem dropping then having 50 ass mixtapes between another one!
but yeah back then it was defiantly done for the love of music! sh*ts a pitty about now but o well your right about we still got a few good people bringing material for the love of it.
