my friend Providence is a HELL of lot closer to Boston than it is to NY...and on top of that, the Paw Sox are right in RI...it makes logical sense for RI people to root for the Sox. Besides if the Sox were only limited to those fans who lived in Mass, who should all the people in Maine and N.H. root for?

word....RI culture is mixed with NY and Boston, (NYC people who are sick of the city life but dont wont to move out to the boons come to Providence/Pawtucket and people come down from Boston), so yea we got a mixed background, but we definitely have Boston accents...no fu*k that..its RHODE ISLAND ACCENTS! fu*k yall Boston heads thinking yall pahk the cah first...

on the accents...maybe your right. i knew a few people that talked like that...esp when they said the word coffee. but i just looked it up on google and there were 2 simple articles that said something about rhode island sounding like new yorkers. so ya id say they got more of a boston accent. i stand corrected. lol.

not quite, they won like 3 or 4 out of the first 15. It's confusing because there were the Boston Pilgrims, the Boston Braves and the Sox and I don't know how they are all related.

Either way, there is no doubt the Sox are one of the greatest bseball franchises ever, despite that insane "curse" thing.

anyway. whats up with your boy Mariano?

no fu*kin clue...Torre totally mismanaged the game.

Hopefully Mariano will turn it around like he did a few years back (05 I think) where he blew his first two saves (both against the sox I think) and then went on to convert 31 in a row

not bad i say

yea it's alright..but how many of them are going to stay that way in the AL east...we both know Wakefield isn't going to finish with that ERA and Beckett never had an ERA under 3 in the NL through a full season...it's like Mets players talkin about John Maine having a 1.92....it's not going to last. Same thing applies to Andy Petite and his 1.85..it's unreasonable to think that will last.

Look at the ERA leaders for the AL in the last 20 years, only 2 times did the ERA leader have an ERA under 2..and it was Pedro and Roger Clemens...and I don't think anyone here is going to disparage those two excellent pitchers by saying Tim Wakefield, Beckett, and even Pettite are of the same quality.

BoSox84
04-21-2007, 01:40 PM
I won't say Beckett is gonna finish under 2, nor will Wake, but I like what I've seen so far. The thing with Wake is, he started this way last year too, but he was getting the Clemens treatment as far as run support. I can see us with 3 different guys finishing the season around 3.50 (Beckett, Schilling, and Dice-K)

justindlawson
04-22-2007, 10:56 PM
back to back to back to back....SWEEP. but still dice k is scaring me. yet when i watch him pitch he looks nasty. i just dont get the add up of the runs. and oh ya jonathon "you cant catch up to my heat" papelbon looks great.

Yankees are in trouble. Not because they don't have a nasty team but because they have so many games against the red sox early in the year and they are already down 3 - 0 and they are banged up. It's gonna be a tough mid to late year rally for them if they leave the first 2 sox series down 5 - 1

the good thing about the sox is that we see Tampa bay in july. now thats a good thing if we can handle them. just gives us a weak team to face towards the end strecthes. i think phillip hughes is gonna do big things. i like what ive read about him.

Baseball Prospectus predicts that the Yankees now have a 3.87% chance of winning the A.L. East.

The folks at CoolStandings.com predict that the Yankees now have a 8.2% chance of winning the A.L. East.

Further, Prospectus says the Yankees have a 23.34% of making the post-season, in general, whereas Cool Standings has them at 36.6%.

Wow, and it's only May 17th.

A 4-8% chance of winning the East and a 23-37% chance of making the playoffs, period. Those are some very long odds, huh?

10.5 games up ahead of the yanks....not bad people say its early. but games gotta be won at some point...and its the beginning of the year is the yankee fans excuses..but we are almost in june. then its july but there is always an excuse. 10.5 games outta first and that rotation i would be pretty scared.

wonder what the odds were in 05

or the odds that one team would have 26 rings while no one else has more than 9

or the odds that a team finishes the year with a .690 winning % like the sox have

lol how so? how many of those players really pitched in 05?

Kevin Brown pitched 13 games in 05..that's not even HALF a season
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=1837

Pavano had 17 starts
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=3784

Wright Pitched 13 games
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?statsId=5839

they were replaced by Al Leiter, Aaron Small, Shawn Chacon, Sean Henn, Darrell May, and Tim Redding...and we STILL came back and won the division

so what exactly is your point? oh wait..you don't have one

and at least get our lineup this year right:

1)Mike Mussina
2)Andy Pettitte
3)Chien-Ming Wang
4)Roger Clemens
5)Phillip Hughes? Tyler Clippard? Matt DiSalvo?

looks pretty solid up that #5 spot....
