Lopez is scheduled for surgery Friday and could miss most of the season — possibly pre-empting the Orlando Magic taking Lopez, 23, as a major element back in trade for Howard, the league’s best center.
The NBA trade deadline is March 15. Pau Gasol previously had the same injury while in Memphis and missed three months, but recovery time can vary by player.
