If ever someone needed proof that the Xbox 360 was slowly being dwindled out of relevance ahead of an inevitable successor, than its list of exclusives for 2012 should do the trick.
It's not a bad list of exclusives -- any Halo release would fly off shelves, and Minecraft on consoles is certainly intriguing. However, next to what the PlayStation 3 has to offer, it's pretty slim pickings.
Let's take a look at what Xbox 360 gamers can expect in 2012.
Release: 'Holiday 2012'
Halo 4 is the seventh installment in the Halo franchise, intended to be the first of a new trilogy of Halo series games. Whereas the previous Halo games were developed by Bungie, Halo 4 will be developed by 343 Industries. The game continues some time after the ending of Halo 3, and marks the return of the Master Chief as the main protagonist. Cortana will also appear in the game.
Kinect Star Wars
Release: 'April 2012'
Kinect Star Wars by LucasArts and Terminal Reality utilizes the Kinect motion peripheral. Players control a Jedi, one of several new characters. With Kinect players use their hands to activate the Force and lift and throw objects and even wield a lightsaber!
Fable: The Journey
Release: 'TBA 2012'
Set five years after the events of Fable III, Fable: The Journey focuses on Theresa and a Dweller and their journey across Albion to reach the Spire. Following them is The Corruption, a body they must avoid on the way to freedom. Fable: The Journey is a first-person shooter, that has players use Kinect to manipulate magic in order to defeat enemies.
Release: 'Q2 2012'
No one expected Minecraft to take off like it did, especially before it was even officially released. The game's beta, which launched in late 2010, brought with it countless created cities and communities, leading into its massive late-2011 launch and ports to mobile devices and Xbox 360. As the only major video game console launching Minecraft, it's easily one of the year's most anticipated exclusives for Microsoft.
The Witcher 2: Assassin's of Kings
Release: 'Q1 2012'
This third-person role-playing game developed by Polish studio CD Projekt RED will be coming to Xbox 360 in late early 2012, bringing with it great combat, RPG elements and environments, initially envisioned on the PC to wide critical acclaim.
Alan Wake's American Nightmare
Release: 'Holiday 2012'
Developer Remedy has insisted that this isn't Alan Wake 2, with trailers and previews suggesting a more action-focused adventure. The game was officially revealed at the VGAs in mid-December, and while it will be available exclusively as a digital download on Xbox Live, is certainly one of the bigger releases of 2012.
