u know maybe because Im not really into underground music or non-commerical rap, but I personally think Dr.Dre is a better producer that Dj Premier. I mean Dre has been makin hits since 1985, there is no producer that can touch that. Im basing this off of consistancy, Dr. Dre has consistantly made top quality beats for the past 22 years, and he is still going. If u take the two songs that the producers have out now "Classic" and "Boss's Life". With out the words "Boss's Life" is a better beat, not to say Classic isnt hot, its fire, But production wise "Boss's Life" is better.

dr. dre doesnt really produce most of the tracks he does anyway.. however not only does premo produce the track and has since 1989..id say atleast 99% of his tracks have him doin the scratching on the hook regardless of the genre..and hes from texas so ima lil biased. i like dr. dre but its soo many ppl who really produce the tracks he gets credit for.. he didnt do most of doggystyle.

Thats because Dr. Dre uses live instruments to make beats. No pro tools
you mean scott storch uses live instruments and dre goes on the mpc right?
look-
It should be noted that although Young studies piano and musical theory, he is not necessarily an instrumentalist himself. As he joked to Time Magazine in 2001, "I bought a trumpet a couple of years ago, and everybody started hiding from me". Time also described a recording process in which Dr. Dre operates more as a conductor than a musician himself:
Every Dre track begins the same way, with Dre behind a drum machine in a room full of trusted musicians. (They carry beepers. When he wants to work, they work.) He'll program a beat, then ask the musicians to play along; when Dre hears something he likes, he isolates the player and tells him how to refine the sound. "My greatest talent," Dre says, "is knowing exactly what I want to hear.
Storch on dre-
"At the time, I saw Dr. Dre desperately needed something," Storch says. "He needed a fuel injection, and Dre utilized me as the nitrous oxide. He threw me into the mix, and I sort of tapped on a new flavor with my whole piano sound and the strings and orchestration. So I'd be on the keyboards, and Mike [Elizondo] was on the bass guitar, and Dre was on the drum machine".
