Maxim Afinogenov returned yesterday. Not that they really need him, or any of their other high scorers for that matter. The young talent has really stepped up, Drew Stafford, fu*k out of here!
Buffalo's got 303 goals. That's 50 goals more than any other team. fu*king insanity.
Oh well, their stanley cup run washed down the drain when they traded off Martin Biron and got Ty Conklin at the trade deadline. Too much faith in Ryan Miller. I think he'll be this year's Cam Ward.

According to the stats, it looks like New Jersey will play Tampa Bay in round one.
And they're losing 6-0 to Florida currently. Talk about a cakewalk first round. Hope John Torterella has a hissy fit again.

gotta respect Ottawa....they have choked in the playoffs but they are always knockin on the door, i think they are a lil more solid this year then most as well, the team has gotten better and better throughout the year...Emery has been a surprise, if he can perform in the playoffs the way he did in the season they will be a competitive team

I think the Sabres have a lot of steam going into the playoffs. Its basically the opposite of last year when they were losing players around this time, now they are getting all their guys back. I dont know, looks pretty good to me. But you're right they shouldnt have traded Biron but I think Miller can get the job done.

Pittsburgh are a good team, but they're not used to being in the playoffs. Their entire team is basically made up of youngsters that aren't experienced in that field. Fleury won't be able to keep up with the intensity, Sidney Crosby has been off for the past month, and yeah. They only have three veteran players, Gonchar, Roberts and Recchi. And they aren't exactly huge names either. They're not going to beat Ottawa.

..NJ dont want it either
dont do crack kids...
New Jersey would DESTROY Pittsburgh. They might let it go to a game 5 just to get their hopes up, but look who those youngsters are going up against... Brodeur, Gomez, Elias, Gionta and thats just the starting line, not to mention who they have on the bench. Do you realize how experienced New Jersey is in playoffs? They have 3 Stanley Cups under their belt, all of which Brodeur helped achieve...
...I'll give it to Pittsburgh, they are a good young team, fun to watch cause they do have talent. but like Confusious said they're going to find themselves in a situation they wont know how to handle, and this will give them the experience they need for future playoffs, because they will eventually win it....
....but not this year. it's NJ's time...again :D

Exactly.
Last season, New Jersey finished the season with 11 straight wins (a new record), plus a four game sweep over the Rangers (15 straight games), before losing hard to Carolina. This time around, they have no insane record going in. No pressure to do anything. New Jersey's always expected to make the playoffs. With Pittsburgh actually getting in, they'll be expected to get to the finals, which won't happen. It takes one injury, and Pittsburgh's fu*kED. New Jersey have been battling injuries the past couple months with Elias, Gomez, Gionta and Madden, and they've still been winning games.
Looks for Zach Parise, Travis Zajac and Jamie Langenbrunner to shine this year. Along with the names I mentioned, obviously.

haha, touche, touche... its was pheonix for the record... and we had already won our division (one of the toughest, if not the toughest division in the league) and it was our backup playin in net that game (has played no more than 3 or 4 games this season)... we couldnt improve position, we just wanted to get thru the game injury free...so basically was a meaningless game...

Ah right, Phoenix, my apologies. I don't really remember a whole lot about the Western Conference.
Clemmensen played New Jersey's last game, and he lasted New Jersey until the shootout. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they played him instead of Marty. Would have been nice for Marty to get another win and extend that win record more, but I wanted to see Isles in the playoffs more than sh*tty Toronto.
I'm also a fan of Vancouver. They play the trap, and are really comparable to New Jersey. Think about it, strong defence, elite goaltender, somewhat good offence, it's all there when you think about it.
I would love to see a Canuck/Devil final (as you can see, I am Canadian so why wouldn't I), but I don't see Vancouver beating San Jose (whom I am betting on representing the West in the finals.

"...but I don't see Vancouver beating San Jose (whom I am betting on representing the West in the finals..."

anyways im pretty stoaked about this years playoffs, all the first round matchups look pretty dope! i like vancouvers chances HELLA, especially with them playin like they have been... loungo is hungry, hes proven to perform under pressure - to win the cup u need a GREAT goalie... so we'll see wat happens!!!

It seems as if San Jose has been forgotten in the mix. The Sharks are a very deep and talented team, not to mention that they are on average the heaviest, youngest and arguably the fastest team in the NHL. The injury to Cheechoo may have f'ed things up a bit, but the sharks have the depth to fill that void. Matter of fact, the Pacific Division was quite posibly the most competitive division..... Regardless, the Western Conference is far superior to the eastern conference in the sense that they have better TEAM play all around.

Bummer. It's disgusting how New Jersey was unable to sellout once during the regular season, and only got 14,000 fans (out of 19,050) today.
They're a great team... then again, New Jersey has to compete with Philadephia, New York Isles and Rangers for fans. Pretty difficult.

Lazy offence too. That and Turco did good. I'm proud for Dallas. I never knew that was Turco's first career playoff shutout. :wow:
Like I predicted, that game is going to be really close. Vancouver will take it though. Hopefully.
Most canadian teams don't have trouble selling games. It's common knowledge. Why would we want to go see Baseball/Basketball/Football games?

I don't know a whole lot about New Jersey, apart from the Mafia () but who knows, they may pull some shocking numbers. Surely it's better than East Rutherford?
Naw, he's staying loyal. He's with us until 2011-2012, then his contract ends, and he'll probably retire. Rightfully deserving it too. Part of his contract also included a no-trade clause. He's going no where.
Here's an interesting read for fellow Devil fans (or just Martin Brodeur fans in general). Proves how much of a work horse he is.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - After spending the past seven months chasing and breaking Bernie Parent's single-season NHL record for regular-season wins, New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur has turned his attention to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the playoffs.
Whether it's at practice or team meetings or simply driving home, Brodeur is reviewing every aspect of Tampa Bay's game before Thursday's opener of the best-of-seven, first-round, Eastern Conference series.
That's the way the 34-year-old Brodeur plays hockey - nothing is left to chance. It's how the NHL's second winningest netminder got 494 career wins.
"I'll do my homework," Brodeur said of his preparation for the Lightning, who won three of four against the Devils this season. "A lot of it is in my head.
"But I'll also look at every single goal they scored on me this season, every save I made on them all year, and I may go back another year."
Brodeur also looks at Tampa Bay's line combinations, their power-play and penalty-killing units, their set plays and then the individual players.
Right off the top of his head, for instance, he knows they only have one or two right-handed shooters.
"It's fun to prepare for playoffs," Brodeur said. "Little things are so important, the tendencies of players.
"When you do these things, and go out there, you're a step ahead. There are a lot of ways to make plays, and (you) have to know who is capable of doing what."
Brodeur said Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis and Brad Richards - the Lightning's leading scorers - all have tendencies and areas where they will shoot or pass.
"You have to read the play before it happens," said Brodeur, who won 48 games to break the single-season mark of 47 set by Parent 33 years ago.
Brodeur doesn't mind discussing his knowledge of the Lightning. He rattled off five things about Lecavalier, who led Tampa Bay with 52 goals and 108 points this season:
- When there is a pass anywhere near him, Lecavalier is going to get it.
- The centre has a great one-time shot.
- For a big man, he can shoot the puck well when it is at his feet.
- He has great reach; he'll freeze you, and then take an extra step to set up a better shot.
- During a power play, he'll go behind the net and control the action with his size and spin moves.
Brodeur said the preparation becomes even more intense as series progress.
"You play the first game and you go back to the drawing board, and you figure it out, whether you win or lose," Brodeur said. "That's the beauty of the playoffs.
"Your focus is just bigger. You see the same guys and the same system and you adjust game by game."
Tampa Bay coach John Tortorella said his team can't rely solely on Lecavalier, St. Louis and Richards.
"They're a good defensive team," Tortorella said of the Devils. "They play close games.
"I'm sure they're going to be keeping an eye on Vinnie and Marty, and it goes without saying they're two of our top players. There's going to have to be something else from some other people. Right now, it's not about going through a long year, it's about getting results. If you don't, you're out."
Devils defenceman Richard Matvichuk said Brodeur can drive opponents crazy with a couple of good saves.
"As good as Marty is, with his (Stanley Cup) championships, World Cups and gold medals, he gets in the heads of the other team," Matvichuk said. "They start second-guessing themselves, where they want to shoot the puck because Marty is that good. He can make a save out of nowhere."
The Devils and Tampa Bay have met once in the playoffs, with New Jersey winning an Eastern Conference semifinal series in five games in 2003 en route to winning their third Stanley Cup title. Brodeur allowed eight goals in that series, four in one game.
- During a power play, he'll go behind the net and control the action with his size and spin moves.
Wish Brodeur remembered that. One of Lecavalier's goals in Game 1 was just that.

I can relate, Brodeur is someone to look up to, however, if he gets traded, I would have an interest in the new team, but I'm still with the Devils. I don't hop from team to team with athletes.
PS we took Game 1, were taking Game 2 today, and in 2 more games its all over for the Lightning.

Naw talented? yes, but they are the biggest group of under acheivers in the NHL... They got a bunch of superstars that dont know how to win... plus u better hope that the horseshoe that is lodged in Emery's ass stays there for the remainder of the playoffs. Because as much as I despise Dominik Hasek he can steal games for his team, Brodeur, Kiprusoff and Luongo can do it too. Ottawa needs a goalie bad... Emery is not a goalie that can do that.

It's Tampa Bay man. Tortorella is overplaying his three star players way too much, and thus they're always all over the place.
I thought the defence was great in the third and OT periods. I couldn't have asked for a better result. Holmqvist was spectular as well. This is the most underrated series in the NHL by far.
Also, who would have thought Zach Parise would be the leading scorer in the playoffs thus far! 6 goals in 4 games. Amazing. He's outshowing Lecavalier even!
ever since Stevens retired, we've needed to work on our defense...our offense and Brodeur have been basically holding our hand through this...
Don't forget when Scott Niedermayer left for Anaheim to play with his brother. Both departures happened in the same off-season, so it was devastating to them. Their aquirations (Lukowich, Matvichuk) are stepping up a lot though! Don't forget Lukowich was a fan favourite in Tampa back in '04 when they won the stanley cup!

PITTSBURGH -- NHL scoring champion Sidney Crosby played the final 2½ weeks of the regular season and the playoffs with a broken left foot, an injury the Pittsburgh Penguins star didn't disclose until Saturday.
Crosby revealed the injury when he explained why he won't play in the world championships in Moscow. Crosby was expected to join Team Canada for the second year in a row after Pittsburgh was eliminated by Ottawa in the first round of the NHL playoffs.
Crosby believes he broke a bone in the foot while blocking a shot March 16 against Montreal, but he didn't miss any games. He had five goals and nine assists in his final 11 regular season games and three goals and two assists in five playoff games.

Speaking of bandwagon riders, I bet you didn't care for Pittsburgh before they started to get good youngsters on their roster.
Me, I've supported my team before the fu*king 90's. I supported the Devils even back when Wayne Gretzky called them a Micky Mouse organization, following a 13-1 loss to Wayne and the Edmonton Oilers. I've been with my team through the good and the bad, so fu*k the sh*t off and stop talking about sh*t you don't even have a fu*king clue about.Well good 4 you.I've been a fan since after their last cup.I didn't even watch hockey be4 that.I never went w/ NO one else but my Hometown team since.I watched them thru up and downs also. It's been about 6 years not making it to the post season. So as far having a clue.I know something. So chill If you say you Really are a fan Of New Jersey. You shouldn't even have problem w/my comments if you wasn't a wagon ryder.

What's with Canadians rooting for Canadian teams? Most american teams have more canadian players then canadian teams do.
Its not about that, its about knowing how much potential Calgary & Vancouver can have, then they go ahead and waste it.. (even we are steppin it up finally  )
I love Calgary but I've never seen them play so bad in all my life.. I almost wish they didn't make it.. The Islanders are a team that definitely deserved their 8th spot, and tho they definitely got their asses kicked by the Sabres, they still put their all in and it was reflected.. I know the Flames won two after dropping two, but a 5-1 final yesterday? Unacceptable..:thumbsdow

Because Richards, St. Louis and Lecavalier are all canadians, while the only canadian on Ottawa is Heatley. Ooh, dangerous. [/sarcasm]
If Heatley couldn't generate much on Marc-Andre (Fleury), then he won't get sh*t from Brodeur.

OTTAWA (CP) - As impressive as they looked in the opening round of the NHL playoffs, the Ottawa Senators say they'll need to pack more punch to knock out the New Jersey Devils in Round 2.
''Our play is going to have to be even better than last series to be there,'' Senators defenceman Wade Redden said Monday, a day after the Devils eliminated the Tampa Bay Lightning to set up a second-round Eastern Conference matchup versus Ottawa. ''We've got to play real smart and real aggressive. All four lines are going to have to be going for us again.''
With all due respect to the Pittsburgh Penguins, whom the Senators disposed of rather easily in a five-game series, the Devils pose a tougher test - they're deeper, more disciplined and defensively better than Sidney Crosby's crew - despite only finishing two points higher than both Ottawa and Pittsburgh in the regular season.
The series is set to open Thursday night at Continental Airlines Arena, according to the Devils' website, although the league has yet to announce the official dates.
''It won't be quite as open, although, going into the actual games, I don't think Pittsburgh was as open as we thought they were going to be. They tried to play real good defence, too,'' said Senators coach Bryan Murray, whose team still averaged more than 3.5 goals per game against the Penguins.
''So we understand the way we attack will be a little different and the goaltending will not very likely give up a lot of goals - bad goals, anyway - so we have to find a different way to get them.''
Murray was of course referring to New Jersey's ace in the hole, Martin Brodeur, who, after shaking off a couple of sub-par performances against the Lightning, was back at his best to finish off Tampa Bay in six games.
While Pittsburgh goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury wasn't bad against the Senators, he also wasn't Brodeur - owner of 93 career playoff victories, which ranks second all-time to Patrick Roy's 151.
The Devils won three of four contests during the regular season and it'll be the third time the teams have met in the post-season and the first since the Devils beat the Senators in seven games in the 2003 conference final en route to New Jersey's last Stanley Cup win.
While more than half of the faces have changed between both lineups since then, the Devils' style hasn't. The Devils do, however, bring an element of offence that was sometimes missing in the past.
''One thing New Jersey does is they play their game and their game is defence first,'' said Murray, who was Anaheim's general manager in 2003 when the Devils beat the Ducks in the final. ''Position is really important to that and goaltending is really important to that and that's what you see over a long time. Night to night, there's not the inconsistencies that you see in some teams.
''Now with a couple of guys that've popped in real important goals, (Zach) Parise and (Brian) Gionta in particular, you see guys with flair to shoot pucks and score goals. That's a little bit of a dimension that maybe gives them a little more at this point on the offensive side.''
Against Tampa Bay, New Jersey was eventually led by the EGG Line of Patrik Elias, Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta, but the Devils got a healthy dose of secondary scoring from Zach Parise, Travis Zajac and Jamie Langenbrunner. It was a lack of production from sources other than Crosby that hurt Pittsburgh against Ottawa.
Tampa Bay tried to steamroll the Devils by using stars Martin St. Louis, Vincent Lecavalier and Brad Richards for big minutes and the approach failed.
Meanwhile, against the Penguins, 16 of 19 skaters recorded at least a point for the Senators and it's that ability to fire on all cylinders the Senators will be counting on again.
''The Gomez line and the Parise line can score goals, the (John) Madden line can, too,'' said Senators centre Jason Spezza, who, along with linemates Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson, saw his offence curtailed in Round 1 by having to keep an eye on Crosby on the defensive end of things.
''It depends on how we play, but obviously we're going to expect to put the puck in offensively.''
Great read.

Montreal Canadiens defenceman Sheldon Souray underwent arthroscopic surgery in New Jersey last Friday to repair a shoulder joint that troubled him most of the season.
"Surgery went well," Souray told the Montreal Gazette in an email.
Souray left the Canadiens' April 7 season finale against Toronto in the third period after colliding with the Leafs' captain Mats Sundin. He left the arena following the game with his left arm in a sling, and an MRI examination the following week led to surgery.
Souray enjoyed the best campaign of his eight-year career with 26 goals and 38 assists this season. With 19 power play goals, he set an NHL record for defencemen.
Souray is set to become one and unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Probably not enough for me to jump to any conclusions, but I can see New Jersey making an offer his way. They did draft him back in 1994 after all.

interesting read...
The New Jersey Devils have played in some dynamite playoff series since their run of supremacy reached its infancy in 1994. There have been some classic clashes over the years, some heartbreaking defeats, thrilling overtimes and stunning victories over the course of their semi-dynasty.
There’s a lot the Devils have seen and experienced in all their years of playoff hockey. They’re in the tournament for the 10th-consecutive year this spring and many of the guys in uniform have been through many of those wars together. They have now played in 25 different playoff series since their crushing seven-game loss to the Rangers in the 1994 Eastern Conference Final.
Interestingly, when asked what the toughest, most difficult playoff series they’ve ever played in, many Devils pointed to the 2003 Eastern Conference Finals against the top-seeded Ottawa Senators.
The Devils won that series in seven games after letting the Sens off a 3-1 hook. Four of the seven games were decided by one goal, two of the games went to overtime, including the series-stretching Game 6, not to mention the stress hanging over each game with the two teams fighting for a chance to play in the Final.
“That was a great series,” John Madden told NHL.com. “A tough series. Fast series. Anaheim wasn’t that much better, but it just seemed like a different pace against Ottawa.”
Perhaps it’s déjà vu all over again, because the Devils and Senators will face each other later this week in a second-round rematch of that memorable conference final. The Devils eliminated the Lightning in the first round in six games, while the Senators made quick work of the Penguins in needing only five games to advance.
The Devils had their hearts crushed when the Rangers beat them in 1994. They had come up one win short of reaching the Cup Final and the defeat stung guys like Martin Brodeur harder than many of their professional losses. Another big-time destroyer was when New Jersey lost to Colorado in the seventh game of the 2001 Cup Final. It wasn’t an easy pill to swallow when the Carolina Hurricanes bounced them out of the first round the following year, and it wasn’t an easy victory when the Devils went seven games against the Ducks in the 2003 Finals.
“That Colorado series in 2001 was the toughest one to take,” Jay Pandolfo, who was matched against Ottawa’s top scoring line that featured Marian Hossa, Daniel Alfredsson and Martin Havlat back then, said. “But against Ottawa, we were up 3-1, and they came back to tie and make it a seven-game series.”
Every playoff series they’ve played has been tough, grinding hockey. Every playoff series anyone plays, for that matter, is generally an exercise in grit and endurance. But for the Devils, a team that has played in more playoffs than any team except for Detroit and Colorado over the last decade, there is one series that still stands out from the rest.
In 2003, the Ottawa Senators finished the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference behind a fearsome offensive attack, tight defense and a suffocating neutral zone clog that made opponents look like they were skating half-speed against them. The Sens eliminated the Islanders in five first-round games, shut down the Flyers in six games in the second round and went into the conference finals with the Devils as a favorite to challenge for the Stanley Cup.
The Devils made quick work of the Bruins in five games in the first round that year and then needed only five to erase the Lightning in the second round. They were still reeling from their early exit a year before and the Devils were clearly not the favorite in the series against the Senators.
Ottawa won Game 1 on May 10, 2003. Three days later, the Devils evened the series, 1-1, and found their rhythm at both ends of the rink. New Jersey won both games on home ice and went back up to Kanata holding a 3-1 lead in the series. In Ottawa, they were already panicking. Daniel Alfredsson’s leadership was being questioned. The top seed in the East was on the verge of elimination.
But the Senators hung on. They won Game 5 at Ottawa and then took Game 6 at the Meadowlands to force a decisive seventh game. The Devils were stunned. One minute, they had the Sens on the ropes. The next moment, it was anyone’s series. The emotional roller coaster of the series featured dramatic peaks and valleys for both teams. First the Senators were under attack. The Devils thought they had it in the bag.
And then after two gutsy performances from the Senators -- including an overtime win in Game 6 -- the series came down to just one game. The fact that the final game of the series determined who would play for the Cup only heightened the drama.
“In the playoffs, every game can seem like do-or-die,” Madden said, “especially when you have a chance to go play for the Cup.
The Devils won Game 7 in Ottawa on May 23, 2003. They took a 3-2 win courtesy of Jeff Friesen’s game-winner and marched on to the Final, where they eventually won their third Cup in outlasting the Anaheim Ducks in another marathon, seven-game series.
While that one wasn’t much easier than the previous seven-game battle, many of the current Devils still say that because of the ups and downs, the back and forth and the drama of being so deep in the tournament, the 2003 Eastern Finals against Ottawa was the toughest series they’ve ever been a part of.
“There’s a lot of them,” Martin Brodeur says. “Definitely, when you get to the end ... I remember when we played the Flyers and we were down 3-1 and we came back, I think, in every single game, it was just so tough mentally. All these games were tight games, too. It’s not like we came in and scored four or five goals and the game was over. We had to play all 60 minutes in these games. I think that series in 2000 was one of the tough ones. I’m sure there are some I missed, but we’ve got a lot of experience playing in playoff games here in New Jersey.”
This week the Devils embark on their most recent playoff adventure against an old foe. A foe that stands out for giving them one of the greatest playoff fights many of the Devils have ever been involved in.

I personally think they were a lot better with Anaheim. Three of the four wins over Anaheim were shutouts, so they obviously did a lot of good things.
I'd definitely say the most intense series in their history was the Ottawa one in 2003, and this one is shaping up to be no different.

Rangers finally take one from Buffalo....awesome game...2OT's and a shot from the blue line with a nice screen in front of Miller ends the game....hopefully they can keep it up

Thought it was great until the third period. I thought they'd call a penalty on Fisher for interfering Brodeur... but instead they actually let the goal stand? What the fu*k. I thought people understood what penalise meant. Appartently not.
Another thing, HNIC (Hockey Night In Canada) suck canadian team's cocks so much I'm shocked they can even get words out.
So far everybody I've spoken to (Devil fans and non Devil fans alike), and they all agree that the refs were idiots and should've gotten the goal and both assists on that bullsh*t goal.
Anybody who knows what hockey is should understand that was the biggest piece of sh*t ever to be shown on national television.

Strike threat, If a sixth game is necessary in the Ottawa-New Jersey series, it could be disrupted by a strike by workers at Scotiabank Place.
The 61 arena workers, including the Zamboni drivers, are demanding improved working conditions and a raise in their $10 per hour salaries.
This week, the workers voted by 86 per cent to strike. They will be in legal position to walk out on May 7, the day of a potential Game 6. Ottawa leads the best-of-seven series 2-1 going into Game 4 on Wednesday.
If Ottawa advances and the strike goes on, it could also affect games in later rounds of the playoffs.

They're $20 each so won't be cheap. Someone will buy them and spread eventually though.
Also says they'll update until all 30 teams are available for download. So that's cool. It's a shame they're basically just recoloured skins and icons.

Well obviously. I'd be stuck up too if I worked at a place that used to have a cool name only to be bought by a fu*king bank.
